When you want to monitor business performance by recording and publishing results achieved across a range of measures, scorecards can be really useful. Measures reflect the strategic objectives of the business: customer satisfaction, investor returns, employee motivation and welfare being typical examples.

Many scorecard systems work on a traffic light system to show at a glance how the company and its brands or divisions are performing against target. Green indicating when performance has met or exceeded target, Amber when performance has improved but is still not on target, to Red when performance below previous years.
